E.J. Korvette, often referred to as Korvette's, was a discount department store chain that operated in the eastern United States from 1948 to 1980. It was a pioneering force in the discount retail industry, significantly impacting how consumers shop today.
Despite the long-standing urban legend that E. J. Korvette stood for "Eight Jewish Korean War Veterans," the name actually came from Eugene (E) Ferkauf and his buddy Joe (J) Zwillenberg, “Korvette” was based on the naval ship “corvette” The store launched before the Korean War even started.
