High Low

Aloha, Friend!
Welcome back to
      Honolulu :-)

"What we may be witnessing
is not just the end of the Cold War,
or the passing of a particular period
of postwar history,
but the end of history as such..."

Francis Fukuyama

"It is easier to visit friends
than to live with them."

Chinese proverb

"A facility for quotation
covers the absence
of original thought."

Lord Peter Wimsey

 "Oh my!"

Cloudia

The giant beast called
"Now"
that we ride-
the zeitgeist is his soul-
Swimming history's currents
to big to control
or comprehend;
We hold on
we people of today
History (we thought)
had been vanquished
by our genius,
economy,
and committees.

The beast laughs:
TSUNAMI !
Thousands of lives
ended.

We live
in interesting
times.

Hold on!

          fondly, cloudia

Do YOU wish we lived in more boring times?

Your poem is quite profound Claudia. Yes, we are always at Nature's mercy. We are also so arrogant that we think we have conquered Nature in many ways. The power of Nature is the original power of creation.

About living in less boring times? I have to think about that. All through history there has been war, violence and suffering. So we can't go back to find boring. Yes, maybe in some way it would be good if the future holds calmer times. Nature, hopefully, will always be Her beautiful and powerful self. We are the ones I fear. I wouldn't object to Earth's people being boring.

These are the best of times so far.
I really believe it from a technological standpoint!

May you live in interesting times is purportedly an old Chinese curse - one which makes a lot of sense to me. Terrorism, earthquakes and the like are not dull. So, yes, I think I would prefer to live in a boring time. With small things (gardens, books etc) to keep me out of trouble.

A deep bow in respect of this entry of yours.

With regard to time, well, this is certainly one if not the largest 'thing' that make me fear. So far, I just wish, that I would have enough time to make a change, every now and then.

One of the best entries of yours, in my opinion. Please have a good Thursday you all.

So true. We are like ants against a hose as it waters a garden, victims of a random universe. Well said Cloudia.

Well said, it is easier to visit certain friends than to live with them.
Are you drinking bottled water only or are you guys back to normal. My son thinks that I worry too much. He does not want to come back to the mainland.

I love the picture of the crab, and I think that any era has its good and bad. As depressing as they sometimes seem, these times do have their silver lining, like your blog!

I wouldn't mind a boring day though I have no desire for boring times. I think Ma Nature is the last word in all things. She is showing this now!

When I was younger the answer would have been a resounding no! In my teens and twenties I wanted adventure and all manner of awesome and terrible things to happen, now I have kids and the world seems to have gone far more insane than in the worst days of the Cold War.

I'd pick calm and semi-rational days in a second over what we have now.

What colorful beauty! The world needs more loads of beautiful things! My hope is that it would help prevent wars and make recovery from natural disasters a bit easier. Mahalo for finding the little bursts of beauty in your neighborhood.
Aw, come on, I don't want to just visit...I want to live there! I just need a few specs of sand and to visit the dancing ocean. (39 years of "waves of wheat," Oz, Dorothy, Toto and tornadoes is enough!) DrumMajor

Very common Chinese proverb using the same like you said but some twist of words "It is easier to visit mom & dad than to live with them." And mom & dad will change it to 'children' haha. Love the 'round' trees are they trees or just some man made globes? tQ

I could settle in with boredom for a bit. At least people would stop and just stop. Instead of being standing stupid as they walk down the hall.
