Aloha, Friend!
It's
Friday.
Let's take an early morning walk
through downtown Honolulu
Click da pics!
I love our older buildings.
They are reminiscent of the monarchy era,
of territorial days,
and the early statehood days of the 60's. . .
"I have an affection for a great city.
I feel safe in the neighbourhood of man,
and enjoy the sweet security of the streets."
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

and enjoy the sweet security of the streets."
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
There are sweet touches everywhere.
Of course my beloved Chinatown (just a few blocks away)
is a different world that we've visited before.
Today I have an errand in the business district.
"The city is what it is
because our citizens are
what they are."
Plato
because our citizens are
what they are."
Plato
See the 3 news boxes?
The WEEKLY is an indispensable "alternative" to the two major dailies.
It seems that we will lose one of the majors very soon
and become a one-newspaper town
like many other American cities.
where homeless mix with college students and business people. . .
"Clearly, then, the city is not a concrete jungle,
it is a human zoo."
Desmond Morris, The Human Zoo
it is a human zoo."

"Towered cities please us then,
And the busy hum of men."
John Milton

The Plato quote - fantastic.
Thanks for sharing.
I don,t remember seeing that bike there but I have stood in the same spot as those three news boxes.
I was kidding about bulldozing gates down. No hawaiian town or any city in the universe for that matter has to go to just one paper, sheesh I was joking.
I am foolish to not fear the city and its neighborhoods but then in so ding I would be fearful of what is mine.
Tuesday afternoon, I drove down Bishop St, turned left on King, then left on Alakea to get to my appointment. The usual busy traffic on a week day. Downtown hasn't changed that much since I quit my job as a legal assistant back in 1997.
My God, has it been 13 years?!
Good Morning....
The graceful, curvy older buildings--very nice. 70s cement. Lots of people thought it was a good idea. Hmm.... To me cement buildings always look like "I think it rained yesterday and will rain tomorrow." A look that unites them worldwide.
Thanks for the walkabout!
loverly. Clean. Well, I think it's clean looking. the light, it's all about the light isn't it?
thanks to you I am getting to know Honolulu which I'll never see in real life.
Happy weekend to you and Aloha.
We have but one newspaper here - if you can call it a newspaper. It seems to be shrinking.
These days in the morning I just want to go back to bed.
I wish you a very wonderful and healty weekend my dear friend!
What a wonderful trip! I had a beautiful one today after the 4th coldest winter on record. Spring is here and I got the shutterbug......had to go snap some pics. Great great trip and tour.
Thanks !
John
One can only wonder what Plato would have said, while seeing his city nowadays...
Please have you a wonderful start into the weekend.
Thanks!!
thank you for the invigorating walk!
