Oh this takes me back, my sister used to paddle there all the time. I love the Peter Beagle quote, I haven't read The Last Unicorn since 5th grade.

We've thought the same thing about that last quote. Brother Dutton labored away at Kalaupapa for 44 years and yet his life of dedication and contribution is usually overlooked which is a pity.
