Bring Mangoes

A  L  O  H  A !
Eyes can only capture objects
already seen in mind.
And mind can only see things
already written in heart.
Toba Beta

Don’t sit at home and wait
for mango tree to bring mangoes
to you wherever you are. It won’t happen.
If you are truly hungry for change,
go out of your comfort zone
and change the world.

The attitude of faith is to let go,
and become open to truth,
whatever it might turn out to be.

Relationship With A Peak

A  L  O  H  A !
I love the mountains behind Honolulu
Only if you have been in the
deepest valley, can you ever
know how magnificent it is to
be on the highest mountain.
                 Richard M. Nixon

Exciting to find new view planes
Wheresoever thou findest
a high mountain or a
lofty hill and a green tree,
know that an idol is there!
        Akiva ben Joseph

The peak attracts clouds,
the cloud caresses
and nourishes the mountain.
It's a beautiful relationship!

Best Things In Life

A  L  O  H  A !
"This is the key to life:
To expect everything to be
given to you from above, yet
to be genuinely surprised and
forever grateful, when they are. -

-Expecting all good things
to be yours,
while not knowing how
to take anything for granted.-

-If there may be a key in life,
this is the key."
    C. JoyBell C.

פּפּפּפּפּפּסּ
I have found this
to be a true formula
for happiness.

Wishing YOU
All The Best!

Waikiki Verticals

A  L  O  H  A !
 The yellow of your dress
dialogues, no SINGS, harmony
with the Rainbow Shower Trees!

 Fans & Lanterns are cousins
as Asia has long known.
Kites are the black sheep soaring,
riding, hiding, gliding,
serving only their own fancy.
And the slender thread.

Verticals Heretical
to some.
But Hawaiians of old
piled stone upon stone to
height for their purposes too.

Original Verticals
of Waikiki.
Royal Groves of palms.
The Magic, the surf, and
the breezes remain.
As do these beauties!

Shine Like The Sun

A  L  O  H  A !
“Life is mostly froth and bubble;
 Two things stand like stone:
Kindness in another's trouble,
 Courage in our own.”
        Adam Lindsay Gordon

“Those who bring sunshine
to the lives of others cannot
keep it from themselves”
    J. M. Barrie

Kindness has a beautiful way
of reaching down into a
weary heart and making it
shine like the rising sun.
 Unknown.

that is greater than kindness?”

Old Friends Book Ends

A  L  O  H  A !
Walking on Saturday evening
to meet friends, I crossed
the Kalakaua Avenue bridge.

Around me, our pocket sized
city of Honolulu
with all the hustle and excitement
anyone could wish for - but no more.

All confined, EMBRACED! between
the rolling Pacific surf and these
glorious, forested, tropical mountains.

I in cool shadow, beheld Awaawaloa
gleaming above in the last full rays of the sun.

I came to Honolulu as an
immigrant from the continent.
Knowing nothing but
full of attitude!
Working the bars,
as a cleaning lady, as a taxi driver,
taught me this town 'mango tree mailbox'
as the old taxi driving 'uncles' used to say.

Now it is me: I know what used to be there,
and the name before that. Through hard work, and love, and refusing to leave,
I made this my town. Now
I am a holder of memory and culture here.
A Kupuna, a 'senior'.

I love this man's native Hawaiian features!
Being an older person here
is very different that what I
saw in my California sojourn.

Here we mix all ages, we never stop
singing, performing, telling dirty jokes,
dancing hula, and holding raffles for
some charity. Saturday night we sent off
an old friend of decades, Gladys, to live
in California with family.

It's too common a story here.
Folks built their whole life
and memories in the islands,
contributed MUCH as Gladys has
done more than most, yet
cannot afford to remain as seniors.

I am a VERY lucky duck

that managed to return!

We honor them,
 and we do not spare
the emotion!

Gladys spoke what was on her mind,
surrounded by those she has loved.
and been loved by for decades

Remember that the most
valuable antiques are
dear old friends.
