Field Trip!
Tucked away in Honolulu's light industrial, residential,
catch-all neighborhood of Kalihi
you can find one of our little gems: Mrs. Cheng's Tofu Factory.
Our town has long imported and manufactured the ethnic foods
that our island population enjoys. There are other tofu factors in town.
We also produce Aloha Shoyu (soy sauce) Portuguese bread, halo-halo and adobo (Filipino treats).
We have several little and big noodle factories,
and even enjoyed our own local sake brewery. . . once upon a time.

Let's go inside to buy some fresh tofu, shall we?

The post brings back memories of Taiwan. Does she sell fresh soy milk for breakfast or tofu flowers?
I had lots of Soy Sauce yesterday. Tofu does not much appeal to me in any form, though.
Very useful information, Comfort! I have never seen Tofu cheese. I must look for it. Thanks.

you know i dont know if i have ever had tofu...its reputation has scared me...
i just love tofu!
I've never tried tofu cheese, but I once took a tofu cooking class and found that it is like a mushroom, absorbing any flavor it's cooked with.
Tofu you, too !
Would you believe that I've never had tofu?
A Korean friend whose parents made tofu explained to me how its done ... its one of my favorite learned to like it foods

Sounds different but I still love tofu. Back home, we call it "tokwa" and we saute it with fresh vegetables, perfect for breakfast or dinner.
Glad to know about our adobo and halo-halo :) I wonder if you already tried our adobo.
Aloha and Salaam my friend.

Aloha, dear friends
When I was twelve, I considered that Grace Slick was probably the coolest human on the planet. Now I am older, and I realize that, in fact, Joan Jett is. But i still really like Grace Slick, so if she says a thing is cool, then it is. ;-)
:)
very interesting!
