During political campaigns,
those running for office
know what we want to hear.
When they achieve office,
they suddenly get disconnected
from us,
the people.
I am NOT in favor of violence.
But when the geniuses in charge of our system
undo hard won rights
and wealth of the people,
in response to THEIR OWN mistakes
it does my heart GOOD
to see the people rise up.
As an American,
I am a child of revolution,
and I believe with all my heart
in government, OF the People,
By the People,
and For the People.
This is what I want
for all the people
of our world
too.
Yesterday,
the people of our State of Wisconsin
held recall elections
to unseat legislators
who stole their public workers'
right of collective bargaining
with the stroke of a pen.
We have been mis-lead
and misdirected for too long
as malefactors of great wealth
have stolen the common wealth of this
and other nations
from the People
to whom they rightfully belong.

LONDON -- As political and social protests grip the Middle East, are growing in Europe and a riot exploded in north London this weekend, here's a sad truth, expressed by a Londoner when asked by a television reporter: Is rioting the correct way to express your discontent?
"Yes," said the young man. "You wouldn't be talking to me now if we didn't riot, would you?"
The TV reporter from Britain's ITV had no response.
So the young man pressed his advantage.
"Two months ago we marched to Scotland Yard, more than 2,000 of us, all blacks, and it was peaceful and calm and you know what? Not a word in the press. Last night a bit of rioting and looting and look around you."
Eavesdropping from among the onlookers, I looked around. A dozen TV crews and newspaper reporters interviewing the young men everywhere.
Thank YOU for visiting! cloudia

Hey Cloudia... what are you thinking about the current state of affairs? I have been so supportive of B.O. and don't understand what is going on now.
You are very kind...the comments you leave on my Journal are much appreciated.
There are powerful forces arrayed against him and the 'common good' who would rather harm the country further than see him succeed. Many people are mislead by very clever and expensive propaganda. . .
Hopefully we can break the pattern with clarity.
Thank YOU (visit her excellent blog, folks :)
eh i think the message gets lost in the violence in a riot...i do think a rise up is great but...

This is really substantial stuff here. It's late & I must sleep. I'm coming backtomorrow to read slowly instead of skimming.

aloha!
I'm with Brian - I think the voice of the youth in the UK got lost in the overwhelming violence and destruction, unfortunately. Having said that, it's about time the government took notice of what has been happening with the poor and the young and the dispossessed...
Truly inclusive democracy is the antidote to riots...
I'm scared of violence and crowds!
Thank YOU for sharing here
I guess that's the other side of the story about the rioting. That's not expressed much by the media, is it. Politicians have been forgetting what their job is supposed to be.
The young man is absolutely right about the rioting in UK. Your pictures are so beautiful.
Hey Cloudia....keep rising up!!
This post is Phenomenal! Hugs and I VOTE for Cloudia!
Let's also tread on Blogger for not updating! Wait--It's free.

Keep shaking us awake Cloudia!
Rioting is rarely the answer.
Speaking out can surely take other forms. Our 'rioters' ranged from kids as young as 12 to complete and utter bigots, right-wing fanatics, and people without a brain cell to their name, all merrily smashing and grabbing, stealing and burning.
The interview you reproduce here was most assuredly not typical.
I like words, rather than violence, if not heard the first time, then again and again and louder, but I think innocent people suffer in mass rioting. I can see how frustrated people get though, complicated situations. Have a fab weekend Cloudia.
Hear, hear!! I watched Dr. Julianne Malvaux speak on the economy on Tavis Smiley and I cheered from my sofa when I heard her say that 'her people need to let the govt. know what they want.' and it was alluded that it might take a revolution or riot to be heard. [have you read her books?]
Two out of four in Wisconsin isn't bad, but not enough.
Wish we could take a scooter ride together & discuss more; oh, and I wish I had a scooter!
Happy weekend!
Thanks for letting me know, I was about ready to pop in on your blog, wondering where is all of Cloudia's inspiration...I need a dose! Will Rogers quote is perfectly honest isn't it!
They have an issue that needs to be heard...and i understand the frustration...too bad there is not a leader among them that has a voice because violence never accomplishes anything. Gandhi figured it out....there must be more respect to gain respect. Let us hope that somebody with some power and voice will become their advocate....come on movie stars...it's not famine or natural disaster...it's real people with huge insurmountable poverty.....( by the way Cloudia, I am buying your book!)
I choose to take a nap. zzzzzzzzzzzz
each of YOUr comments here just blew me away! There is great wisdom in us people. I take Friko's remarks about the elements always threatening tranquility...
Thank YOU
It would seem that some of my comments are not making it through but let me state again what I wrote this morning.
We are a country, but are we a nation? Are we as the majority of citizens of this country as divided as them who are elected to lead us truly representative of how we feel?
Or are they now the government of the purchased, the ones who go to either local, state or national office and immediately find that the lobbying power and dollars is to much a temptation to adhere to the principles they espoused while stumping for a job that honestly pays better than any other except them found on Wall Street or Hartford Connecticut where their masters live?
Will we ever regain the will to stand up as a people of purpose or is sitting and yelling at your television enough for you? Is writing emails which are one among thousands that come into their office every day sufficient to enact the change we need to move us from this morass?
Haven't you had enough of your privatized social security (401 (k)) being stolen from you by the thousands and returned by the tens due to market fluctuations? Haven't you seen enough of both sides of the aisle play that "cut the social safety net off the rim" victory dance?
And do a little looking into this minority of elected officials who now run the federal government calling themselves "The Tea Party" for god's sake the tea party is maybe 10 well financed people who herd sheep. Judson Phillips one of the leaders of that train wreck made almost $800,000 in 2010. and that was just slightly above average. Are you a tea party member? If so how does it feel to vote against your own best interests?
We will not as a people have many chances to stand up and make the government what it was supposed to be, what it once was. You and I can never pull together the amount of money that business' which now rule this country and have stolen the nation for their own greed.
Do not be fooled any longer your leaders are serving their masters who paid for their elections and they are serving their own wealth. Boehner last year was worth 8 million, Obama 5 million and trust me they only ranked near the middle of the pack of millionaires who would rather starve you than pay one more dime than the law forces them to.
All of you bloggers have two things you can do:
1) VOTE
2) Research the truth and write.
I doubt that until the effects of these massive cuts the new governors of the upper midwest come into fruition will the country be in the mood to explode. But when it does it will be a fight on uneven terrain for the government already has battle trained troops ready to send against any display of popular unrest.
Don't believe me...do a search on NORCOM Troops permanently stationed in Alabama for use against civil unrest. W brought them here and Obama made it a permanent assignment.
Stay complacent at your own peril.
Somethin' happenin' here...what it is ain't exactly clear...
