Pele, volcano goddess
created these islands
with her magical hula
of fire!
Sometimes,
folks see her as
a young Hawaiian girl,
sometimes
as a seasoned older
woman in red. . .
"According to Hawaiian Legend,
Pele, the fiery goddess
of the volcanoes
in Hawaii,
would send her white dog
as a messenger to alert the people
when an eruption was imminent.
A white dog was first noticed
by the
observatory staff
during the latter part of 1959
about 1/2 km below the
observatory."

Pretty hot!!
Amazing! I have never seen hot magma like that.
Are they all the same white dog or does she have a supply of them?
Yes. I read about Pele when I was there. I saw the lava from a helicopter. (I was such a tourist.)
Must be an amazing thing to see, and yet very frightening as well.
Well Cloudia, I know of Pele the famous Brazilian footballer, but it's the first time I've heard of this Pele!
interesting bit of lore!
So many wonderful Hawaiian myths - Pele one of the most captivating! (And I wouldn't mind doing what those UH students are doing:)
Yes! There is a 'similar' dog in my book, 'Aloha Where You Like Go?'
There is also an episode of hot lava walking, witnessing therein too.

'Hot Mama' - EACH of YOU makes me smile. Thanks SO much.
Oh goodness me Cloudia - very scary.
Reminds me of a song, Cloudia!

I believe she is a hot mama! I do enjoy legends like this- they are so interesting! It appears we are all curious about any white dogs roaming about. Thanks for sharing the amazing video too. Stay safe- and watchful!- Karen
GREAT to see YOU each - thanks!
Beware of white dogs and old women in red dresses!!
It shocked me the first time I felt how hot the air was near the volcano. When you look into the mouth of the volcano and lava, it becomes an experience you never forget.
