The Human Touch

A  L  O  H  A !
“It is an absolute human certainty
that no one can know his
own beauty or perceive a sense
of his own worth until it has been
reflected back to him in
the mirror of another loving,
caring human being.”
                                John Joseph Powell

“Too often we underestimate
 the power of a touch,
a smile, a kind word, a
listening ear, an honest compliment,
or the smallest act of caring,
all of which have the
potential to turn a life around.”
                                      Leo Buscaglia

“Touch is the most basic,
the most nonconceptual form
of communication that we have.
In touch there are
no language barriers;
anything that can walk,
fly, creep, crawl, or swim
already speaks it.”
                         Ina May Gaskin

We all long for the Human Touch
but not everyone knows
how to provide it.

When we become upset,
or lost, we need
eye contact and patience.
We need a person to
take a moment, to listen
to care.

This should be
a No - Brainer.

But it is not.

These basic
human skills
have grown rare.

BE the one who cares.
Look for small opportunities
to pause, to listen,
to Care.

And Thank You
for Your Care
that I feel.

You are most
Appreciated!

sometimes we seem to live in a world where everyone is a narcissist, caring only for themselves and how they look next to others.

Those are wise words about touch and caring. I will make a point from now on about being that way. People deserve it!

Great post!! I love the sky shot, but most of all I love your message. Here are some of the lyrics from a song called "The Human Touch." I learned it at camp in the 1970s, and I have no idea who wrote it.

The Human Touch
It's the human touch in this world that counts,
The touch of your hand in mine.
It means far more to the fainting heart
Than shelter, bread, or wine.
Shelter is gone when the night is o'er;
The bread lasts only a day;
But the touch of your and the sound of your voice
Live on in my soul always...

My upbringing was to not touch others very much. However, when I moved to the mainland, I had to get used to being hugged and to touch others. As a teacher, I learned that a pat on the shoulder or clasp of the hand was so very important, not just for the child but their parents.

Hi Cloudia,
I like your wise words and wise photos. I imagine it's a comfort and inspiring each day to contemplate what you're going to put up. Thank you.

Also, thank you for the gift of your book. I am enjoying it very much. The writing zings along. ". . . a land still being poured. . ." describes one of the feelings I had about the Big Island. It gives a vivid portrait of HI and you. To start I'm more familiar with the former but by the end I'll be acquainted with you. I know what it takes to make a book so kudos.

Thanks again.

Hi Cloudia,
I enjoyed your wise words and photos. It must be affirming and inspiring to contemplate and publish them each day - a record of your thoughts and intentions.

Even more, I appreciate your book. I am familiar with HI and barely know you. By the end I will know more about HI and you - two welcome things. Your writing zings along. Your description of the Big Island as ". . . a land still being poured . . ." fits one of my many feelings about it. Write on!

One benefit of living in Hawaii is endless opportunities for some fantastic photos of sunrises and sunsets. This one's very cool.
