Kanaka`ole Gold

A  L  O  H  A !

"He `olina leo ka ke aloha."

Love speaks
 in a gentle
and joyous voice.

Hawaiian Wisdom

'Gold Tree'

“We are all connected
 to everyone and everything
in the universe.
Therefore, everything one does
 as an individual
affects the whole.
All thoughts, words,
 images, prayers,
blessings,
 and deeds
 are listened to
 by all that is.”

 Serge Kahili King

Huna Principles.

  "  The world
is what you think it is

    There are no limits

    Energy flows
 where attention goes

    Now
is the moment of power

    To love
 is to be happy with

    All power
 comes from
within

    Effectiveness
is the measure of truth. "

The Kanaka`ole Ohana
(Family)
are not only the curators
of a great cultural treasure,
they ARE the treasure;
They live it,
live IN it,
and work with it
practically
in their daily life-
The Treasure
constitutes
 their most
significant
Life Work
on many levels.

The treasure
is the ancient chant
and oral wisdom
of Hawaii.

Their name may ring familiar
to lovers of Hula & Chant.
Edith Kanaka`ole Stadium
in Hilo Hawaii
is the annual site
of the Merrie Monarch Festival,
where Hula & Chant
are celebrated
by dancers
and devotees
from all over
the islands,
all over the
World.

The late Edith Kanaka'ole is considered
 one of the most influential
Kumu Hula
[source/teacher of Hula]
of the 20tht century.

Today,
her family preserves, studies,
 and teaches
authentic language and chants,
 devoting much time
 and scholarship
to the study of old texts
preserved in the Bishop Museum
 and other resources.

  Granddaughter  Kekuhi Kanahele
 lives ably in two worlds.
She sings and chants in a fashion
that many describe with word's like "primeval,"
 but she has also contributed
much valuable academic research.

Great grandchild
 Kaumakaiwa Kanaka'ole
[also known as "Sonny"]
is today's sensation.

Here is a fun, contemporary
outbreak of dancing
by Sonny
that conveys
the current state
of the lively art:

This is actually a "Part 1" post.
I saw Sonny with Tutu (Grandmother)
Pualania Kanaka`ole Kanahele,
 and  mother Kekuhi Kanahele
speaking together under a tent
at the Honolulu Books & Music
Festival on Saturday.

The three of them pulled back the curtain
revealing some very juicy information
about the scientific, and metaphysical
truths that they preserve and live
every day.

Watch for a future post
 about their very 'practical magic.'

Thanks for visiting!

" This little ship
 you sent . . .

click to REALLY feel the BIG-ness
. . .is more wonderful
than the big one
that takes me away
 from you. "

Charles Frohman

" It's surprising
 how much memory
 is built around
things unnoticed
at the time.  "

Barbara Kingsolver

" He has not lived badly

Horace

Ah,
the famous
Chinese curse:

"May you live
in interesting
times."

So clever.
Sounds like something
a mean-girl would say.

It sounds nice,
until it
sinks in!

Predictable
is nice:
a home,
food,
loved ones.

Interesting times
means
problems.

But I'm gonna
fool them!

I'm gonna
enjoy
these interesting
times we've got.

It's all just
a matter of
PERspective.

Won't YOU
join me?

Thank YOU-

Ben Franklin Virtues & Music

A  L  O  H  A !

Benjamin Franklin's Virtues.

1. TEMPERANCE.
 Eat not to dullness;
 drink not to elevation.

2. SILENCE.
 Speak not
but what may benefit others
 or yourself;
Avoid trifling conversation.

3. ORDER.
          Let all your things
have their places;
 let each part
of your business
 have its time.

4. RESOLUTION.
  Resolve to perform
what you ought;
Perform without fail
what you resolve.

5. FRUGALITY.
     Make no expense
 but to do good
to others or yourself;
 i.e., waste nothing.

6. INDUSTRY.
       Lose no time;
be always employ'd
 in something useful;
cut off all
unnecessary actions.

7. SINCERITY
 Use no hurtful deceit;
 think innocently
and justly, and,
 if you speak,
speak accordingly.

8. JUSTICE.
  Wrong none
 by doing injuries,
 or omitting the benefits
 that are your
 duty.

9. MODERATION.
  Avoid extreams;
 forget about
resenting injuries.

10. CLEANLINESS.
  Tolerate no uncleanliness
 in body, cloaths,
or habitation.

11.TRANQUILLITY
 Be not disturbed
at trifles,
 or at accidents
 common
 or unavoidable.

12. CHASTITY.
 Rarely be sexually indulgent
 but for health
or offspring,
never to dulness,
weakness,
 or the injury
of your own
 or another's
peace or reputation.

13. HUMILITY.
Imitate Jesus
and Socrates.

This man Franklin
came to Philadelphia
from Boston
with but a
loaf of bread
in his pocket.

Prudent,
printer,
hustler,
thinker,
lover of wine,
and women,
he became
one of the founders
of the United States.

Internationally famous
for his scientific work
in electricity,
and multiple
mundane inventions
[bi-focals]

First ambassador
to France,
popular guest
in Paris salons,

He invented
a musical instrument;
the Armonica,
or Glass Harp.

It was popular
among the aristos,
who whispered
that it's music
made one
quite MAD!
[insane]

Before electronic
sound effects,
it was used in films
about magic,
mystery,
or Flying Saucers.

It's STILL so used.

Without further ado,
prepare to lose YOUR
mind:

a very different

You will find

Ralph Waldo Emerson

" To the illuminated mind
the whole world

Little at a Time

A  L  O  H  A !

“ If you want your children
to be intelligent,
 read them fairy tales.
If you want them to be
more intelligent,
read them
more fairy tales.”

 Albert Einstein

" Let your life lightly dance
 on the edges of Time
 like dew
 on the tip of a
 leaf. "

Rabindranath Tagore

" And now
 here is my secret,
a very simple secret;
it is only with the heart
 that one can see rightly,
what is essential
 is invisible
 to the eye. "

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
