New Year Lions Backstage 你好

A  L  O  H  A - Nihau - 你好

We see and taste,
and live China's culture
all over Honolulu,
all through Hawaii.

 Chinese New Year
is a special time of year to me.

We Hear it,
See it, Taste it,
and
SMELL it!

End of a Long Day - Heads OFF!
 Not ALL
of the lion dancers are teens,
OR Chinese.

 "Secret Alley"
Chinese Cultural Center, Chinatown Honolulu

Lions in ones and twos,
retreated behind a closed door
while I took the shot
above this one
(and some in our party
drank some "Alley Beers")
I snuck the door open a
crack and found
the secret Lion Store Room!

The Year of the Wood Horse
starts Jan 31st.

Honolulu is just
getting started

GUNG HEE FAT CHOY!

Wishing YOU
the best year yet!

Hawaii's Highway

A      L      O      H       A   !
Most goods come to Hawaii by ship

William Matson (1849–1917)
 was the founder
of the Matson Navigation Company.
 He was born in
Lysekil in Västra Götaland
CountySweden,
 and orphaned during childhood.
He arrived in
San Francisco
after a trip around
Cape Horn in 1867.
Working aboard the Spreckels family yacht,
he struck up a friendship with sugar tycoon
Claus Spreckels,
who financed many of Matson's new ships.
In 1882 the three masted schooner
Emma Claudina
ran to the
Hawaiian Islands
.
The enterprise began in the carrying of merchandise,
especially of plantation stores, to the islands
and returning with cargoes of sugar. "

" Matson is credited with
 introducing mass tourism to
Hawaii
with the opening of the historic Moana Hotel
(March 11, 1901
now known as the Moana Surfrider Hotel)
 and the
Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki
on the island of Oahu. "

Most of my adventures
take place
in my own head
these days.

Routine can be
comforting
when life has been
anything but -
Ye,t it's good
to shake things up
once in a while.

I drove to shop
in Hawaii Kai,
and the highway
going back to Honolulu
looked like a
parking lot.

On islands,
the main roads
are often coastal;
Not too many
options.

But I decided
to make it an adventure
and continue around
the isle,
and come back
to town over
the Pali Highway
through the
Ko`olau mountains

H = Home, S= Shopping
P= Pali Highway

I chose an adventure
over a traffic jam.

Right choice!

I fell in love
with Oahu all over
again.

What a gorgeous day!
(Just sayin`)
& Sharing it with
YOU
is the best part.
Please keep safe
in Your adventures-

Toodle-OOO
