Fences Today Tomorrow

A  L  O  H  A   from   Honolulu!
Red Ginger Fence

“A joyful life is
 an individual creation
 that cannot be
copied from a recipe.”
                                Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

The red flowers should be bigger, right?

" Humble living
does not diminish.

It fills.

Going back to
a simpler self
gives wisdom. "
                            Rumi

This fence is just a place to stand

“Look up, laugh loud,
talk big, keep the
color in your cheek
and the fire
in your eye,
adorn your person,
maintain your health, your
beauty and your animal spirits.”
                             William Hazlitt 1778-1830

" Grandmother,
as she gets older,
 is not fading but
 rather becoming
more concentrated. "

Independence

A  L  O  H  A   from   Honolulu!

“ To overcome the anxieties
and depressions of
contemporary life,
individuals must become
 independent of the
social environment to
the degree that they
no longer respond exclusively
 in terms of its
rewards and punishments. -

" To achieve such autonomy,
 a person has to learn
 to provide rewards
to herself. -

- She has to develop the ability
to find enjoyment and
purpose regardless
of external
circumstances.”
                   Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

Seize Be Endure

A  L  O  H  A   from  Honolulu!
" Seize the moments
 of happiness, love
and be loved!
 That is the only reality
in the world,
 all else is folly. "
                          Tolstoy

" What it means to be authentic:

- to be more concerned with truth than opinions

- to be sincere and not pretend

- to be free from hypocrisy: "walk your talk"

- to know who you are and to be that person

- to not fear others seeing your vulnerabilities

- being confident to walk away from

situations where you can't be yourself

- being awake to your own feelings

- being free from others' opinions of you

- accepting and loving yourself "

                                    Sue Fitzmaurice

“The beauty of a woman. . .
 true beauty in a Woman
 is reflected in her soul.
 It is the caring that
she lovingly gives,
the passion that she knows.
And the beauty
of a woman,
with passing years
 only grows!”
                Audrey Hepburn

End of Day Has It's Say

“Courage doesn't always roar.
Sometimes courage is
the quiet voice

Karma Burners
are those annoying
problems & issues
that get under your
skin.

You can't
stop worrying over
them, but in the
Big Picture
your life will go on
however they resolve.

Not true emergencies
they are the equivalent
of moral push-ups;
Opportunities for
gratitude. Yes,
life must be OK
if such a small irritant
can IRRITATE
so big.

Strategy: LAUGH

Thanks for
Laughing here!

 Massive Yet Insubstantial

" The universe waits
 to start working
 in your favor
until you show it
some determination.
Until then,
it gives you
 next to nothing.

What Are YOU Missing?

" If you live your life
being worried about
whats going to happen next,
then your going to miss
the wonderful things
that are right
in front of you. "

First Hawaii Catholics

A  L  O  H  A   from   Honolulu!
" Different flowers
look good
to different people. "

  Our Lady of Peace
Malia O Ka Malu
[ lHawn. lit:' Maria of the Calm ]

 Oldest cathedral in continuous use
 in the United States.

 Saint Damien of
Molokaʻi was ordained here
on May 21, 1864.

Placed on the
National Register of Historic Places
in 1972.

" After some years of persecution
of Roman Catholicism in the
Hawaiian Islands (partly instigated by
Congregationalist and
Presbyterian missionaries
who had befriended the
Kamehameha dynasty)
the Royal Hawaiian government
issued an Edict of Toleration
creating freedom of religious
expression June 17, 1839

 As an act
of reconciliation,
Kamehameha III gave the
first Roman Catholic missionaries
a piece of the royal estate on
which to build the first
Roman Catholic church in the kingdom.
Ground was broken on July 9, 1840,
coinciding with the
Feast of Our Lady of Peace.
Mass was celebrated on that day,
and 280 native Hawaiians
received the sacraments of baptism,
confirmation, and first
Eucharist.
The cornerstone of the building
was ceremonially laid on
August 6, 1840.
Native Hawaiian volunteers harvested
 blocks of coral from the
shores of Ala Moana,
KakaÊ»ako, and WaikÄ«kÄ«.
Dedicated August 15, 1843 "
