" Blues is a natural fact,
is something
that a fellow lives.
If you don't live it
you don't have it. "
              Big Bill Broonzy

" Music isn't just learning notes
and playing them,
You learn notes
to play to the music
of your soul."
Katie Greenwood

Life wouldn't be
worth a thing
if we didn't have
the blues
from time to time.

Blue
puts the Gold
in high relief
-sets it off nice-
so
Don't Let the Sun
Catch You Crying!

We're gonna
get through
This Thing
Together-

and you will understand
everything better."

 " -as men do a-land;
the great ones eat up the little ones;
I can compare our rich misers
to nothing so fitly
as to a whale;
a’ plays and tumbles,
driving the poor fry before him,
and at last
devours them all
at a mouthful. "

Good Fencing

                         Morning Smoke with Shadow Twin

I like the two angles
[front and side view]
of his hand & face,
and the dialogue
between the two circles
big and small.
They seem happy.

 Robert Love,

 baker and  native of Glasgow,

Scotland,

arrived in Honolulu

June 19,1851.

 On July 12

the Ministry of the Interior,

Kingdom of Hawaii,

 issued Robert

  license  to operate a bakery.

" The entrepreneurial success

of Love’s Bakery truly

deserves to go to one woman,

Fanny Johnson Love.

 After

Robert Sr. passed away,

Robert Jr. and his wife, Fanny, took

over the business. At the age of 48,

Fanny was widowed

with 6 children

and a heavily mortgaged bakery.

For 32 years, Fanny ran

Love’s Bakery enduring fire

[The Great Chinatown Fire, Cloudia]

plague,

 annexation [of the Hawaiian Kingdom]

and the

Republic [of Hawaii], with grace, dignity,

and statesmanship. "

Fanny Love appears briefly
in Alan Brennert's amazing
historical novel MOLOKA`I .

“ I've come to believe
that how we choose to live
with pain, or injustice,
or death...
is the true measure
of the Divine within us.”
                       Alan Brennert

Surrounded by darkness
yet enfolded in light.”
                    Alan Brennert,
                                                 Moloka'i

“No land is more beautiful,
and therefore more powerful.
That is what I believe in, Aouli.
 I believe in Hawai'i.
 I believe in the land."
-Haleola
