Barefoot on the Road Less Traveled

A  L  O  H  A !

 "  We inhabit ourselves
without valuing ourselves,
unable to see
 that here, now,
 this very moment
is sacred;
 but once it's
 gone -
- its value is
 incontestable. "

Joyce Carol Oates

" Just cause you got
the monkey off your back
doesn't mean the circus
 has left town. "

George Carlin

" People are like
 stained-glass windows.
 They sparkle and shine
 when the sun is out,
but when the darkness sets in
their true beauty
 is revealed only
 if there is light
from within.  "

Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

Gift of Pessimism

A  L  O  H  A !

" To be always
 fortunate,
and to
 pass through life
 with a soul
 that has never
 known
sorrow,
 is to be
ignorant
 of one half
of nature. "

    Seneca

“ If you have
 a garden
 and a library,
 you have
everything
you need. ”

Marcus Tullius Cicero

" Beautiful sunsets
 need
Cloudy Skies. "

 Paulo Coelho

Disclaimer:
Pessimism can poison
your entire life.

BUT
when you have come up
like I have:
expecting
- often receiving -
FAR from life's
 best;

When things have
been
very difficult,
and survival
 the paramount
virtue,
year
after year;

Well,
what other people
consider
"just normal stuff"
like hot water,
a place to cook,
great weather,
love & care
in place of
neglect
(and worse)
enough
to pay the bills

- that
 "normal stuff"
is received
with grateful
delight.

Nuclear war
didn't happen.

I didn't die
young.

I've been
happily married
for 25 years.

B I N G O !

Looks like winning
to me.

And to those
who had magical
childhoods,
who never really
feared,
lost a friend,
or went hungry:

You have my
 condolences.

And this parting
gift:
One day
YOU
will be
No More.

So take
a "get real"
pill
if you need to,
and stop worrying
about tomorrow.

You already
are a winner-
just collect,
and enjoy
Your Winnings!

Kitty's Update

A  L  O  H  A !

Baby Elephant Walk by Henry Mancini on Grooveshark
 Aloha;
 I'm Pixie.

 Come right in
and see my
new digs

 I'm a water girl.
Running water
FASCINATES me.
And we all
need to drink,
eh?

 I'm training them
to turn it on
when I wish.

 This is my get-away.
They look in,
but let me be.

 Of course, I have
places known only
to myself.
Places NO ONE
can ever see
tricky,
magnificent Me.

 It is my responsibility
to supervise
and be seen.

They do need
some watching.

My nose tells me
a very old, sick cat
recently lived here.
Much love passed
between them,
they are grieving-

But I'm nursing
them
back to
mental health.

 Here's a
secret wink
 to you!

Wait, I'll do another,
BETTER wink
below:

Mahalo Gracie

" A kindly gesture
 bestowed by us
on an animal
 arouses prodigies
 of understanding
 and gratitude. "

Colette

 Heh heh-
I'm SO running
this place!
See my lightning bolt?
I'm a distant relation
of Usain Bolt.

Yah Mon-

 I'm making my mark-
Everything's
coming up
Calico!

Walking Stones

A  L  O  H  A !
Walking Man by James Taylor on Grooveshark
Click on the Pics
 " I am one
 who is fond of
olden times
 and intense in quest
of the sacred knowing
 of the ancients.  "

Gustave Courbet

" Some are so very
studious
of learning what was done
 by the ancients
 that they know not
 how to live
 with the
moderns.  "

William Penn"

 “ Reflection is
a flower of the mind,
 giving out
 wholesome fragrance ”

 Desiderius Erasmus

“ But who will watch my lilies,
 When their blossoms open white?
By day the sun shall be sentry,
And the moon and the stars by night!”

Bayard Taylor

 " The snowdrop and primrose
 our woodlands adorn,
and violets bathe
in the wet o' the morn.  "

Robert Burns

Ah the ancients.
How did they do it?

Building things,
unimaginably heavy
things;
Voyaging
across  oceans
vast.

How?

Modern theories are often
untested-

Old stories
tell of magic
and gods.

There is a stone
not far from here
at the gates of Punahou School
that our president passed
daily there
as a school boy.

Actually, the stone
by the gate
is just a fragment
of the original
Pohaku.
[ Link ]

There remains
an old legend
about the moving
of the great Pohaku:
" This is not a stone,
it is a man "

The stone that
walked
like a man.

sounds cool, right?

Well below is a video
of a large stone
"walking"
with the help of
some friends
right here
on this island.

It may clear up
an enduring mystery
about the great Moai
of Rapa Nui.
 ( "Easter Island" )

Thank YOU
for 'walking' here today
