“I did not wish to
take a cabin passage,
but rather to go before the
mast and on the
deck of the world,
for there I could best see the
moonlight amid the mountains.
I do not wish to go below now.”
Henry David Thoreau

A beautiful quotation. That reminded of my first passage to England. I was 13 ½ years old going from Dieppe, in Normandy France, across the Channel to England. I was with a group but the sea was rough and all the members of the group (a dozen kids) were staying under deck (and getting sick.) I walked to the upper deck, I still remember it, it was 23 December 1953, and the sea was so rough that we were the last ship allowed to get out of the port. On the deck it was windswept; the waves were high and the ship going up and down. There was this dreamy boy standing there, so I went next to him and for the next 3 hours we stood watching the waves and getting soaked. Then we got into the English port and I never saw him again – but I still remember …
A great picture,Cloudia
Thanks kitties! (look at the 3 cats!)

What a glorious sight. Go below, and miss the majesty? Hell no.
OH WOW! Love the sky and its reflection!
Wonderful quote and scrumptious picture!! I love all those sailboat masts.
I wouldn't want to go below either. I would be standing next to Thoreau. Your photo is breathtaking Cloudia, what an incredible sky and scene with the boats. Have a great weekend :)
