Railroad Memories

A   L   O   H   A  !

Riding a passenger train,

past a siding

where boxcars,

tankers,

coal carriers,

 flats,

and maybe even

a caboose,

waited,

was fascinating

to me as a child.

That is the Logo

of the

 Chessie System

[ That's a Link!]

Trains were dirty, and loud,

 and rattling.

But you could ride 

and sleep

with comfort on

 the C&O

Chessie was based on this painting.

I haven't been on a train

for a long time;

a long distance one,

with a compartment

for many years longer.

I remember the moments,

decades ago

early in the morning

[ traveling from Durango

to Philadelphia

via Chicago ]

rounding the  

Great Horseshoe Curve

[ another link! ]

watching it from my

rocking bunk.

I can still see pink

waves of

the Atlantic

lapping near the 

rails

of the line from

New York to

Boston-

again,

early in the 

morning.

[The "Night Owl"

left after midnight.]

Whenever I'm upset,

I've found a panacea

that can instantly

make me feel good;

I remind myself

that Barack Obama

is my President.

For four more years.

The Supreme Court,

the Middle Class,

Students,

Seniors,

and Business

can ALL prosper

with intelligence,

not be hobbled

in the name of

ideology.

It feels like an angry,

dangerous bully

has dissolved in a puddle

like the wicked witch. 

Progress DOES Happen!

All we've worked for

our whole lives,

all the unpopular causes

we supported

are in the ascendancy.  

Thinking on these things

always improves my mood.

When I was a teen,

angry at the war,

and so much more,

I was told:

"No one will listen 

to angry people

with NO positive

contribution to make.

Grow Up!

America:

Love it or Leave it!"

To our opponents

who want to secede

or recede

into wound-licking

and conspiracy theories  

I say:

Contribute.

Join in.

Help your community

and our nation.

No one likes

snide, angry  

know-it-alls.  

Share your hearts,

not insults.

We know what it's like

to feel powerless

and unheard. 

Work like we did

for the things you

believe in.

It IS

YOUR country-

BUT it is

OURS

too!

Love it

or leave it!

At the Clinic

Routine Appointment

Waiting for the physician

in that little room

(without a window)

there is too much 

Time

perhaps a second,

maybe 5 more minutes,

to Think.

at the face I really have
