Most black cats have a hidden tabby pattern (often called "ghost stripes" or "ghost markings") that can be seen upon close inspection, particularly in bright sunlight.
All domestic cats genetically carry the tabby pattern, as it is the original wild-type coat pattern. For a cat to appear solid black, a separate "non-agouti" gene works to mask this pattern. This gene doesn't always do a perfect job, which is why the subtle stripes, spots, or swirls may still be visible.

Allowing
You cannot force
a bloom to rise,
Nor hurry morning
to your skies.
But if you pause,
relax your guard,
Then light will enter—
soft unbarred.
No need to hunt
the peace you seek;
It waits beneath
the noise, yet speaks
a voice of friendship,
not command,
Just breathe
And pause.
Reach out your hand.
Joy grows where pressure
Disappears;
Listening well.
Then it comes near!
What you choose
Begins the art
Of allowing joy
Into your heart.

OH gosh, Cloudia. You are the most awesome poet. This is absolutely beautiful. Happy Hanukkah, dear friend. Thank you also for the reminder to wish my Israeli friend in Jerusalem a Happy Holiday too.
The first photo looks like a beautiful painting.
❤️🤙🏽
Thanks, Andrew
Love that Roberts Rabbit. Aloha, Linda in Kansas
Beautiful poem!
...the first image is GORGEOUS!
Loved your poem today...very thoughtful. And how nice to see Pixie's friends, cats and even a rabbit! Happy Solstice morning and may the new turning of the earth around the sun bring many blessings to you!
Beautiful skies.
Hello, Cloudia
I love your poem, great advice too.
The first two photos are favorites.
The kitties and Pixie are adorable.
Happy Hanukkah to you and yours.
Have a wonderful week ahead.
Thanks for the tree pic!
That info about cat’s coat patterns is fascinating!
Have a great winter holiday season — even though you don’t have any winter.

I love your poem and the factoid about Robert's Rabbit. Pixie looks miffed that she doesn't get to play with the Hanukkah candles instead of that "fake" cat. Happy Hanukkah!
Love those sky pics and your poem, Cloudia. ;-)
Joy is in my heart, Cloudia! Pixie looks so regal in her photo, too. Blessings!
Together these lines and observations remind us that what appears solid and self-contained
I thought you were about to issue bad advice.

Great quotes. Amazing photography, specially 1st and 2nd pic. Beautiful cats and Pixie :)
Interesting info about the black cats and Robert's Rabbit is a cute mural. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Cloudia, and wishing you a healthy 2026. Hope your husband is stable.
