Homeward Magicness

A   L   O   H   A  !

Marin, California Nov 2015 - May 2019  -  "Final Dawn"

There is a kind of magicness about going
far away and then coming back all changed.
            Kate Douglas Wiggin

The day arrived. Final exit from "our"
driveway, and leaving of "our" street, our
 neighborhood. Dear neighbor drove us.
Goodbye, Pacheco Pond,
Golden Gate Bridge. Likely I will
never cross you again. Going home.
No intention to ever leave again.
Hawaii.

"Leaving On A Jet Plane"
All roads lead home as home
is where the heart is.
So Love. Simply Love.
For love is home to all of us.
        Wald Wassermann

I want to be someone you can’t live without.

           Charlotte Eriksson

VERY complicated procedure to bring
even an island born pet home!
Multiple tests, vet visits, and messengered
official paperwork for the State!
Every detail scrutinized, double checked.
Or Pixie would be incarcerated on return.
For months. The State office at HONO
that handles such matters was
peopled by sad folks after long flights,
who just didn't know!
Children separated from pets! Adult
children separated from theirs, sadly.
At last a State veterinarian carrying
Pixie and a thick sheaf of documents
with our name on it appeared.
All in order! Happy Day!!!
We left the sad people,
an intact family for the
final leg of this epic journey:
Waikiki.

It was his home now. But
it could not be his home till he had
gone from it and returned to it.
Now he was the Prodigal Son.

True Nature of Things

A  L  O  H  A !
"For in the true nature of things, if
we rightly consider, every green tree
is far more glorious than if it were
made of gold and silver."

how great a part of all
that is cheerful and delightful

"Repetition doesn’t really exist.
As far as your mind is concerned,
nothing happens the same twice,
even if in every technical sense,
the thing is identical.
Your perception is
constantly shifting. It
doesn’t stay in one place."

Marin CA Morning

I walked on top of the water
across the Potomac River,
the headline that afternoon
would read
"President Can't Swim"."

very wet motor scooter,
waiting at a red light
by Honolulu City Hall,
I looked across at
Lunalilo's Tomb,
he a Kamehameha,
and thought:
"I'm looking at the Tomb
of a King, built when
Hawaii was a Kingdom."

My Two Landmarks

A  L  O  H  A !
Diamond Head / Mt. Leahi

Diamond Head is the symbol of
Honolulu, Hawaii & Waikiki.

Golden Gate Bridge - Towards San Francisco

The Golden Gate Bridge
is the world-wide emblem
of San Francisco

Diamond Head Entire, From Tantalus

Elevation‎: ‎762 ft (232 m)
Age of rock‎: ‎200,000 years

Almost Entire - From Marin Headlands

8,981 feet long (1.7 miles)

Contains about 88,000 tons of steel.

Total weight of the bridge is 887,000 tons.

Approximately 80,000 miles of wire inside
each of the two steel cables.

The towers stand 726 feet above the water and
500 feet above street level. They weigh
44,000 tons each and are 4,200 feet
apart from each other.

The bridge is 90 feet wide. Street level is
about 220 feet above the water.

1848 - Captain John C. Fremont names the cleft in the Coastal Mountain Range opening onto San Francisco Bay the Golden Gate. The bridge derives its name from the land feature and not its color.
1916 - James H. Wilkins comes up with the idea to connect northern California to the San Francisco peninsula.
December 1924 - The United States War Department, the government entity responsible for the entire area surrounding the strait, approves the project.
1928 - The Golden Gate Bridge and Highway District is formed and Joseph B. Strauss is appointed as architect/designer.
January 5, 1933 - Construction begins.
May 27, 1937 - The bridge is completed and opens to pedestrians. The bridge is built at a cost of approximately $35.5 million and comes in under budget and ahead of schedule.
May 28, 1937 - The bridge is opened to vehicles."

Me & Diamond Head

“I live in my own little world.
But its ok, they know me here.”
       Lauren Myracle

Driving across the G.G.

"I have two homes, like someone
who leaves their hometown
and/or parents and then
establishes a life elsewhere.
They might say that
they're going home
when they return to see
old friends or parents,
but then they go home as well
when they go to where
they live now.
Sarajevo is home,
Chicago is home."

Self, Pleasure, Divinity

A  L  O  H  A !
We all woke up this morning
and we had with it the
amazing return of our
conscious mind. We recovered
minds with a complete
sense of self and a
complete sense of
our own existence — yet
we hardly ever pause
to consider this wonder.”
                António R. Damásio

pleasure at once?
How often is happiness

foolish preparation?"
