I walked on top of the water
across the Potomac River,
the headline that afternoon
would read

Monarchy Digression
Scene: Me on my
very wet motor scooter,
waiting at a red light

I looked across at
Lunalilo's Tomb,
he a Kamehameha,
and thought:
"I'm looking at the Tomb
of a King, built when
Hawaii was a Kingdom."
