I remember

Snow Days.

Blessings

from above.

Respite

from school.

Days we all 

Love!

Adventure

from the sky,

piled so high,

scattering bright light

to twinkle the eye.

Playing, sliding,

even a fall -

when we're young

are a nothing at all.

Snow 

was an adventure,

now seems like

indenture.

But SO darn pretty;

At least before

it grows

gritty.

I'm well content

with snow pictures

You show!

They bring a nice glow

of winters long ago

that helped me to grow.

[I'm one of those

who CAN DRIVE

in the snow!]

Today, we have VOG.

Blew up from  Big Isle,

makes me feel like a log.

Gone: smarts and style!

Ancient stuff.

buried for millennia, 

today

are filling me

with some sort

of phlegm-ia!

I'll say it again:

VOG makes me

DUMB;

One's sinuses feel

like a big bass drum!

But don't worry for me

it ain't nothing

but FUN!

Temps in the 70's

and nothing but

SUN!

Soon the Trade Winds

will return,

perfection unearned.

But I'll take it!

Hope you can

The volcano on the Big Island

is pouring out

copious amounts

of Volcanic Haze,

called VOG

as it has for over

a quarter century!

Sulfur, 

deep Earth gasses,

and who knows 

what -

Usually, this is not

a problem

as the Trade Winds

blow it all away.

But, with southeast winds

the VOG makes it's way

here to Oahu.

Throats get scratchy,

the blue sky goes dull;

Moods are effected.

To me, pewter November days

are rich with memories

of growing up in Philadelphia.

The sky there seemed

shades of grey

all winter.

But I feel for our visitors.

Though they enjoy

this lovely place,

they may never know

the SPARKLING WONDERS

of our usual climate.

When the VOG blows away

(probably this weekend)

it's as if everything

goes saturated with

loveliness.

So don't visit

till the weekend

except by blog

(this one first preferably)

That sulphurous atmosphere is called

  V O G: Volcanic Smog.

*Scratchy Throat*

*Dull headache*

*Cough Cough*

*Breathing issues*

 

Fortunately, Honolulu 

usually enjoys a 

North Pacific High

parked north of us,

driving Trade Winds,

the islands'

 natural air conditioning.

But since last Saturday,

Southerly winds have 

crashed our weather party,

bringing haze from 

Kīlauea volcano

 on the Big Island,

[  4,190 feet (1,277 m) high ]

Erupting since

 January 3, 1983

!

Kīlauea means "spewing" 

or "much spreading"

 in the Hawaiian language, 

referring to its

 prodigious production

  of lava,
or in this case
HAZE.
