My Day, Your Day

A L O H A !

In this place -

- There is grace

Today is a flame

 Relieved by grace.

So meet me again tonight-

 In our special place.

We are called
to be bridge builders;

but too many of us

are merely

toll takers.

You are welcome for free,

here on the Spiral Jetty.

" May your trails be crooked,
winding, lonesome, dangerous,
leading to the most amazing view.
  May your mountains rise
into and above the clouds. "

behaving self righteously

Clouds

ALOHA !

Click on these photos !

"At the beach, life is different.
Time doesn't move hour to hour
but mood to moment.
We live by the currents,
plan by the tides,
and follow the sun."

- Anonymous

" Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees
on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of water,
or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time.  "

John Lubbock

" The sky and the strong wind
have moved the spirit inside me
till I am carried away
trembling with joy.  "

Uvavnuk

"  Only from the heart
can you touch the sky. "

  Rumi

" Clouds come floating into my life,
no longer to carry rain or usher storm,
but to add color to my sunset sky. "

  Rabindranath Tagore

"The air up there in the clouds is very pure and fine,
bracing and delicious.
  And why shouldn't it be?
- it is the same the angels breathe. "

Mark Twain,
"Roughing It"

Saturday Hula

ALOHA,   FRIEND !

Let's look in on the Prince Lot Hula Festival

" Hula is the art of Hawaiian dance,
which expresses all we see,
smell, taste, touch, feel,
and experience.
It is joy, sorrow, courage, and fear. "

"Have you ever heard
the earth breathe? "

Kate Chopin

  Moanalua Gardens
is a place long associated with Hawaiian history.
This great Monkey Pod tree
is known to be over 100 years old.

During the 1850s, King Kamehameha V
had a Summer cottage in the valley.

Here, away from the prying eyes
of Honolulu Town, the court could enjoy
hula, chant, the Hawaiian language,
and the other traditions that outsiders
were trying to eradicate.

Lovely Hula Maidens

"He lei poina ‘ole ke keiki "

' A lei never forgotten
is the beloved child  '

This Hula Mound
is an important place to devotees of the tradition.

" I cannot help feeling that the chief end of this meeting is plantation profits,
and the prosperity of the country,
the demands of society,
the future of the Hawaiian race
only comes secondarily if at all. "

1800s

" A'a i ka hula, waiho i ka maka'u i ka hale "
 Hawaiian Saying
' Dare to dance,
leave shame at home.'

'KALO' is better known as 'TARO'
the staple food of Hawaiians

"Tell me what you eat,
and I shall tell you what you are."

Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin
(1755-1826)

The stone Poi Pounder, the Kalo Board,
and the Bowl: THIS is Hawaii !

" There is no love sincerer
than the love of food."

George Bernard Shaw

" We may find in the long run
that tinned food is a deadlier weapon
than the machine-gun. "

George Orwell

A L O H A !

Beach Morning Mellow

" It was morning;
through the high window
I saw the pure,
bright blue of the sky
as it hovered cheerfully. . .
It too seemed full of joy,
as if it had special plans,
and had put on its finest clothes
for the occasion.  "

Herman Hesse

YELLOW!

" The world is glittering with gold,
and yellow streamers of sunlight
wind through the tree boughs
like GOD was throwing
a party. "

Christine Anderson

'Green Dream'

" A scoop of pure honey
set in a green bowl."

Godfrey Smith

My Blue Heaven

“If the sight of the blue skies

fills you with joy,

if a blade of grass springing up in the fields

has power to move you,

if the simple things in nature have a message you understand,

Rejoice,

for your soul is alive.”

Eleanora Duse
