As many as ten thousand of them may be expected.
They show up every year.

The Kolea (golden plover)
has already arrived from Alaska.

But these honored guests have waited
to make their entrance.

Till now!

This week
off Maui:

The humpback whales have returned once more!
To calve, to nurse, to enjoy our island waters.

Aloha Welcome
our longtime friends!

In your faithfulness
you remind us of ancient cycles.
And
we celebrate you
with awe.

All guests - that's YOU dear reader -
bring a blessing.
Thank You Most Warmly, Cloudia

May the season of birth and rebirth be upon the lands and seas of the pacific while the bountiful portion of the cycle turns through.

Beautiful shots and beautiful sentiment, dear friend - as always!

But something new, when blogging in Spring I noticed how grateful I was for a heads-up that the critters were migrating and on their way north.

It is comforting to know that they are moving south and will return at some point.

Blessings!

I never really think about how animals who leave the north for the winter have their return anticipated in the south. I only think about how excited we are when they come back in the spring. To know that they're loved and appreciated wherever they go is in itself a blessing.

I wonder why the cycles of the natural world give us such joy. Perhaps it makes us think of renewal, or that life has a certain permanence.

Love the space ship sitting on top of the building! What does the glover look like?
The whales are cool to see, so big yet so graceful in the massive ocean.

There is something timeless, and spiritual, about whales, isn't there?

I'm always humbled by the majesty of the planet, the way the world continues to turn on its axis despite our artificial, and detached, urbanity.

I've been somewhat quiet on friends' blogs in recent weeks - just can't get myself out of my shell, much as I want to - but I wanted to thank you for your wonderful comments on my blog in recent weeks. It brings me an immense sense of peace to know there's so much caring out there. You honor me with your words and thoughts, and I'm deeply thankful.
