Clearing da Banyan

Aloha, Friend!

A Ted Trimmer Photo

"Ask not what tomorrow may bring,
but count as blessing

every day that fate allows you."

Horace 64 B.C.

Ted caught this great shot of a box fish too.

"Perhaps more people would give heed
unto the word of the Lord
if the Lord had a funny blog."

Angel
in a Robert Mankoff cartoon,
in the New Yorker

This one's mine :)

"What difference does it make
how much you have?
What you don't have amounts to much more."

Seneca

Sounds a little depressing at first,
but is liberating when you think about it...

And here's a video I took of the dauntless yard men of Waikiki
clearing out a giant banyan tree.

The dramatic tension is provided by a fellow who,
upon seeing that I was filming,
stood in the frame and waited.

I could have screamed!
"Act normally, keep going!"
Ah, the life of a blogger...

Bye Now! cloudia

Every quotation so true.
Love your video. Banyan clearing must be a big job.

They're so neat about their task!

I laughed when I saw the man (and subsequently others) stop and wait politely. He had to be a Canadian. ;) And he also had to be thinking that you were taking a snapshot as opposed to a video, and didn't want to walk in front of your camera at just the wrong moment. He was SO patient but I could almost hear him thinking "When is she going to just take the &#$%^# shot?"

Interesting tree. I liked that all three men were wearing matching blue shirts. How professional is that? I like the box fish photo too. But that tree is something else.

Great quotes. I loved the Horace and the New Yorker cartoon caption. Glad there are no banyans in SoCal.

so many wonderful glimpses into your island life! Have you ever seen the green flash as that sun sinks into the ocean? I saw it once on the west shore of Oahu. I was so amazed, there it was- a flash of green light.

Dear Cloudia,
hope everyting is fine with you all. Took a deep, very deep breath and dived deep into the comfort spiral during this night, just before leaving for Athens.
Please have a wonderful Tuesday you all. Thank you for sharing such great video.

a haole lua tree?

I saw that poetical car tune in the newspaper too

while my mind was singing lyrics of songs I've never heard

"I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah"
-Leonard Cohen (leon our dear company mother hen)

How big is that box fish? It's hard to tell from the photo, but it looks fairly sizeable...

I suppose that one could take the position that it is the strong that don't need "stuff" to survive or to make themselves look good, rather than the more common approach that the strong have accumulated stuff through their power. I do think possessions carry a weight all their own.

They get pretty big, Lana; like a smallish football swimming by.

Thanks for your comment too, J.M.
