After the Unthinkable

 " -treat all disasters
as if they were trivialities
 but never treat a triviality
as if it were a disaster.
"

Quentin Crisp

" Science fiction films
 are not about science.
 They are about
 disaster,
which is one of the
oldest subjects
of art. "

Susan Sontag

"Tragedy
is a tool for the living
 to gain wisdom,
not a guide
by which to
 live. "

 Robert Francis Kennedy

 " Instead of weeping
 when a tragedy occurs
 in a songbird's life,
 it sings away its grief.

 I believe we could
 well follow the pattern
 of our feathered friends. "

 William Shakespeare

Even we
who only witness
the aftermath of the
 Storm
feel an emptiness,
empathy,
and care
for friends,
family,
and strangers
who are just now
living the challenge.

Do what you are able,
but do not despair.

A lovely post - and let's think of the countries that have been affected much worse than the USA - for example, Cuba and Haiti.

Sf films are about disaster. That's an interesting statement. my first response was to reject it but maybe I need to give it more thought.

i feel for those affected in the US and beyond...so much of life is turned upside down...but tragedy as well is one of the greatest things to bring us together...

Water is nice when it is where we want it. The sound of the ocean waves and blue sea is wonderful and calm. Wish it wasn't misbehaving back East. Makes a big mess. The old photos where Mad Mother Nature has hit before are interesting to see. So much has been built up, just asking to be knocked down. Prayers said. Like the saying that "pets are people too," as a nurse I can say that "hospitals are buildings too," and can have trouble in such horrid storms. (Gotta stop watching Piers on CNN.) DrumMajor

Cloudia,
You have powerful credentials involved in many community projects. I'm in awe, Ma'am!

Your postings tell me you are also artistically inclined and very talented.

It's sad that the eastern coast gets the brunt of the disaster.
