I practiced that well last night with a person who kind of wanted to jerk me around emotionally. I held to it and told her goodbye. I dislike doing that to someone who I adored a great deal, but I have a fairly good base of self-esteem.
Yet I didn't say hurtful things, I stuck with the truth and was consistent.
Such is life, no?
