Seasons And Mornings

 A L O H A  From

H  O  N  O  L  U  L  U

Taking off your shoes
is a sacred ritual.
It is a hallowed moment
of remembering the goodness
of space and time. It is a way
of celebrating the holy
ground on which you stand.
       Macrina Wiederkehr

I like to live
Where life goes on-
near a schoolyard,
Or busy intersection.

With activity of mornings
Children laughing,
Old friends meeting.
Being where life goes on.

I see a mother
Guiding dear small steps.
And I see the aged.

Buses sigh,
The bell rings
Someone waves and
Someone waits.

Bicycles passing,
People cross,
Each going on their way.
I watch quiet,
And remember:

My thoughts
Are just one window
In a world full of mornings.

The Hawaiian Isles

just changed seasons!

A few days ago, on May 2, 2025,
an annual ceremony was held here
in Waikiki to honor the traditional
Hawaiian change of seasons from
Ho‘oilo (wet season) to Kauwela (hot, dry season).
The event featured traditional hula, chants, and storytelling (mo‘olelo). It took place at sunset,
precisely when the sun set into the
crown of Pu‘u o Kapolei *-a specific hill
in the western distance-
a moment that occurs only once a year

Like a graceful vase, a cat,
even when motionless,
seems to flow.

Love You,
Cloudia & Pixie

*In Hawaiian, "Kapolei" translates to "beloved Kapo".
The name originates from a volcanic cone called Puʻu o Kapolei, where "puʻu" means "hill". The "Kapo" in Kapolei refers to the Hawaiian goddess of fertility, Kapo, who was the sister of the volcano goddess Pele.

I love your poem and the shot of the mom and twin little girls. Does Pixie mind the change to a hot, dry season?

I wish I lived closer to Hawaii, because I would have loved to have seen the ceremony at the aquarium
