Soar Deeply

A L O H A From Honolulu!

The world is loud,
but I am still, When I stay grounded
it keeps me strong, Part of ALL, I am whole, While at peace, I belong.

Growing older means
being wise enough to know
when to let things go
and let things be

EVISU
was Japan's first jeans brand and
designer clothing company producing denim through traditional, labor-intensive methods. Founded in Osaka in 1991 Evisu's name
honors the beloved
Japanese Shinto deity Ebisu
who is associated with
good luck and prosperity.
He is often depicted as a
lucky bearded fisherman
with his fishing rod.

Soar deeply, my soul, To the heights of your being. Let go of all that weighs you down, And let your wings spread wide.

Wisdom cannot be rushed

Palace

A L O H A From Honolulu!

A bird is joy incarnate.

Iolani Palace, Honolulu

It was as if I had
inherited a palace by
virtue of simply
being in love. Aspen Matis

I am smart enough
to keep it simple,
make it simple, and I
don't mind seeming simple.

Ant Wishes

A L O H A From Honolulu!

Even the wishes of a
small ant reach heaven.
Shinto Saying

His eye is on the sparrow.

In Hawaii, one may go to
a Shinto Shrine
for a New Year Blessing
and many do. Because of the
pandemic, this will be my
first visit since 2019

For Shinto, at root, is a religion
not of sermons but of awe:
which is a sentiment that may
or may not produce words, but in
either case goes beyond them.
Joseph Campbell

Holiday Libation with my pal Zeus
in his festive home!

For last year's words belong
to last year's language;
And next year's words
await another voice.
And to make an end is
to make a beginning.
  T.S. Eliot

This chart shows Honolulu's
air quality from New Year's Eve
6 pm to 1 Jan 2023 noon.
You can see the effect of
MANY illegal aerial fireworks!*

Lest you think this is
from recent volcanic
activity, above you can
see Hawaii island [Active
Volcanoes] on the
right edge all green.
To the upper left on Oahu
you can see the yellow over
Honolulu because of the
population density here on
the "Gathering Place" isle.

Pixie does her best Janus impression,
looking back to the past
and ahead to the new year.
She tells me it will be a better one.

and endured the barrage in fine style.

Your Own Unique

A L O H A From Honolulu!
Step onto a clean slate
each morning and you
will be miles ahead
of the rest.

Cultivating gratitude
every morning
when you wake up
refreshed can help
your day start off
on a good note.
Rocco Cozza

There is a still higher
type of courage -
the courage to brave pain,
to live with it, to never
let others know of it
and to still find
joy in life; to wake up
in the morning with
an enthusiasm for
the day ahead.

On Saturday, I went to a local
Shinto Shrine for my
New Year Blessing.
Hawaii people celebrate one another's
cultures. While in California for
four years, I missed many such things.
Good to be home.

Hope Is Helium

A L O H A From Honolulu

Hippeastrum

Hope is a helium balloon.

It is a wish lantern set out

into the dark sky of night.

 Sharon Weil

People who have endured

an era of vulnerability

emerge with great strength.

I’m also convinced that the

second half of this year is

going to be more fantastic

than we can imagine right now. -

- We are going to become

hyper-appreciators,

savoring every small pleasure,

living in a thousand

delicious moments,

getting together with

friends and strangers and

seeing them with the joy

of new and grateful eyes.

        David Brooks

Even in one single leaf

on a tree, or

in one blade of grass,

the awesome Deity

presents itself.

Shinto Saying

More smiling, less worrying.

More compassion,

less judgment.

More blessed, less stressed.

More love, less hate.
