Tiny

A   L   O   H   A  !
Living in the Sunlight by Tiny Tim on Grooveshark
" The splendor of the rose
and the whiteness of the lily
do not rob the little violet
 of it’s scent
 nor the daisy
of its simple charm.

 If every tiny flower
wanted to be a rose,
spring would lose
 its loveliness.”

 Therese of Lisieux

Even a piece of discarded trash

Can be somebody's world

" The world is moved along,
 not only by the
mighty shoves
 of its heroes,
 but also by the aggregate
 of tiny pushes
of each honest worker. "

Helen Keller

After the Unthinkable

A   L   O   H   A  !
 " -treat all disasters
as if they were trivialities
 but never treat a triviality
as if it were a disaster.
"

Quentin Crisp

" Science fiction films
 are not about science.
 They are about
 disaster,
which is one of the
oldest subjects
of art. "

Susan Sontag

"Tragedy
is a tool for the living
 to gain wisdom,
not a guide
by which to
 live. "

 Robert Francis Kennedy

 " Instead of weeping
 when a tragedy occurs
 in a songbird's life,
 it sings away its grief.

 I believe we could
 well follow the pattern
 of our feathered friends. "

 William Shakespeare

Even we
who only witness
the aftermath of the
 Storm
feel an emptiness,
empathy,
and care
for friends,
family,
and strangers
who are just now
living the challenge.

Do what you are able,
but do not despair.

Sing YOUR Song!

Eidola

Season Of The Witch by Donovan on Grooveshark

Henry David Thoreau

According to Democritus
our eye can see
only because
 objects broadcast

replicas
of themselves
 called
Eidola
 that are but
an atom thick.

How thick
are the pixels
by which we
bloggers show
our imaginations,
and images
to one another?

Morning After

A   L   O   H   A  !
The Morning After by Maureen McGovern on Grooveshark
I love
"The Day After."

For many
in the path of the storm,
the day after
is Day One
of a long haul;

Perhaps the first day
of a new way of life
without home,
livelihood,
or loved ones.

They won't be
forgotten.

 But for most of us,
the lucky ones,
we return
to the blessings
usually too 'normal'
to be noticed.

The dew,
 'Tis of the tears
 which stars weep,
sweet
 with joy. ”
Philip James Bailey

Tsunami Saturday Night

A   L   O   H   A  !
Another Saturday Night by Sam Cooke on Grooveshark
It had been a fun Saturday.

Sunset
heralded a relaxing evening at home.

 The moon was almost full.
Honolulu was buzzing
with Halloween Hi-Jinks.

Then it all went sideways:

!TSUNAMI    WARNING!

Living on our boat
for 20 years,
we had run from two
tsunami alerts!

But this time
we could watch it all
from the 35th floor
of our apartment building-

- MUCH nicer experience!

I wish I could describe
the sounds of multiple sirens
at varying distances,
the traffic,
the media hub-bub,
the government proclamations,
traffic jams,
traffic accidents. . .
The confusion
and expectation.

I wish I could show you
the lighted boats:
from commercial shipping,
to small private craft,
to the Coast Guard-
that all left the harbor
to bob on the dark horizon
like a flotilla
of stars.

I especially loved
the row of tug boats
that went out like
a family of
bright ducks.

Soon the streets
were silent.

Hawaii Waited.

We had seen significant
D A M A G E
from the Japanese Tsunami
of March 2011.

We were lucky

this time.

This morning,
all the ships returned.

Relaxing Waikiki Again

" The right time
 is any time
 that one is still
 so lucky
 as to have. "

Henry James

" The world is getting to be
 such a dangerous place,
a man is lucky
 to get out of it
alive. "

W. C. Fields

Now our hearts are with those
 facing Hurricane Sandy
on America's North Atlantic Coast .

" Humor is in fact
 an essential element
 in the mirth of creation.

 God

lightly. "

Pope Benedict XVI

that all these religions,
 even the queerest ones,
contain at least
some
 hint of the truth. "

C.S.Lewis

" Look for the silver lining
in every cloud
and those revelations
 will create the thread
to weave the fabric
of a renewed and

Joy Smith

are to humanity. "
