Emotional Day

" Thank You "

That was the message of the day
yesterday.
  I'm wrung out
from the sheer emotion
of it.

Sure,
nice things happen every day
here in Waikiki

Parades here are commonplace

But yesterday,
the parade was for these guys

The "Go For Broke"
WWII Veterans of Hawaii

Men who fought fascism overseas

and prejudice at home,

Defeating them both

This month
they were awarded the
Congressional Gold Medal.

They were already
the most decorated unit
in US military history.

Even if you usually don't click on videos,
do  watch the video below about the Vets
and about the day.

It was a beautiful day to say "Thank You"
to REAL HEROES!

Thank YOU for kindly visiting here.

It really means a LOT!

                                       Warmly, cloudia

What a wonderful tribute Cloudia, we owe such a lot to our fathers generation and it really is great to see them being honored in this way.
As for yesterdays 'couple', I would say 'viva la difference', what a great little video you made with a great BIG message! Well done indeed.

Thank you for this post, Cloudia. I wish my uncle could have gone, but he is now suffering from Alzheimers. It's so very hard to see him this way. I'm glad his comrades got the recognition that had been long denied them.

Best post of the weekend! Thanks for helping keep the memories fresh. Its because of these men and women that we can think, write, and say what we want.

That's fantastic--I loved learning this. How tough they had to be...I'm grateful for their service.

My dad served in Japan at the end of WWII. He passed away in 2005, at the age of 78. That generation is fading fast. I'm glad these guys are still being recognized.
