Havaianas, the iconic Brazilian flip-flop brand, was created in 1962, inspired by the Japanese Zori sandal. Havaianas replaced the Zori's straw sole with rubber and added a rice grain pattern, a nod to its inspiration. The name, meaning "Hawaiians" in Portuguese, was chosen to evoke a sense of tropical paradise and vacation. Initially sold in blue and white, Havaianas became a staple for Brazilian workers and eventually gained global popularity. Havaianas were initially sold by traveling salesmen in Volkswagen Kombi vans,

The Kombi is a fine car to attract attention. It is good that such a business has been operating for such a long time.

Pixie looks like she's ready for a road trip to sell some Havaianas in a VW Kombi van! That would be a beautiful thing!

Those quotes are so beautiful and fitting for the photos. The one about keeping true to the dreams of your youth, especially, feels right at home with the carefree, tropical vibe. The photo of the common merganser is lovely, too.

I also had no idea about the history of Havaianas. It's so cool that they were inspired by Japanese sandals. It's funny how a small detail like a rice grain pattern can be a nod to its origins and become a globally recognized brand.

I've just published a new post on my blog.

What a cute VW van. We bought a second hand camping VW van when we lived in Germany in the 80's. Good times! The Havaianas are popular here too, but too expensive. I've had some brought from Brazil by a cousin who visited us.

I love Pixie and I love VW buses. I rode from Portland, Oregon to San Diego, California when I was 17. A fun trip.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous day and week, Cloudia. Scritches to Pixie. ♥

Awww. I'm gonna cry. That VW bus reminds me of Buster Blue Bus, my old '62 blue and white VW bus. It went 40mph, downhill, with the wind. A tune-up cost $13 in parts. Linda in Kansas
