A L O H A
From
Honolulu
A row of palm trees
is a visual lullaby,
swaying softly, whispering
peace to the shoreline.
Stillness lives where
palms meet the sea.
reminding us how beautiful
it is just to be alive.
Black crowned night heron,
Nycticorax is a genus
of night herons.
The name Nycticorax
means "night raven" and derives
from the Ancient Greek.
There is something quietly
miraculous about a
full moon in the morning sky—
treasure left behind
by the night,
still glowing as
the day-world wakes.
Two worlds, a threshold, the moon escorts us to day.
calm and clear
in the hush of early morn.
miraculous about a
full moon in the morning sky—
treasure left behind
by the night,
still glowing as
the day-world wakes.
Two worlds, a threshold, the moon escorts us to day.
calm and clear
in the hush of early morn.

Pixie yawns—
a small honest roar,
the day’s first truth.
Then food dish
a small honest roar,
the day’s first truth.
Then food dish
upon the floor. . .

Club Hubba Hubba was a legendary Honolulu burlesque and strip club that operated from the 1950s until 1997, and today lives on mainly through its iconic neon sign in Chinatown. Opened as Café Hubba Hubba in 1947 and renamed in 1953, it became the Pacific’s premier burlesque venue, famous for jazz, exotic dancers, and a “seedy” but glamorous nightlife scene popular with GIs from WWII through Vietnam. The club closed in 1997 and the interior was remodeled into office space, but the building’s owners restored and kept the neon “Hubba Hubba” sign—designed by notable Honolulu neon bender Robert “Bozo” Shigemura and reinstalled around 2012—which still glows at night on the red-brick building at 25 N. Hotel Street, one of Chinatown’s most photographed landmarks.
I danced at other clubs in town,
but not this one!

Cool words and cool post. I love Pixie's morning roar for her breakfast.
If the world waves at us to get our attention, I think we are duty bound to wave back!
Hope all is well. Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
Thank You 🌺

...enjoy the cooling breezes under the waving palms, but watch out for the coconuts! 🌴🥥
Hello Cloudia,
Love your poem and the line of palm trees is lovely.
Cute photo of Pixie.
Take care, enjoy your day and the week ahead.
Love that the Huba Huba sign remains...and reminds you of dancing at other clubs! The Pixie shot is precious (they all are!)
I love the palms, Pixie, and the Hubba Hubba sign, Cloudia. ;-)
Pixie is cute even when she's yawning. Loved your fantastic poem, Cloudia. Blessings!
So I'm wondering what kind of business is inside the old dance club. Must be rowdy and liberal to reinstall the neon sign. Me thinks Pixie danced late for such a morning roar. Linda in Kansas
Pixie's yawn is so ladylike compared to my foster cat's; I feel like I can see down to the bottom of his throat!
Beautiful words, Great photos.
Sign looks great. Greetings to you and Pixie :)
I love the heron. I've never seen one in person.
Hugs to you and Pixie :)
Great they kept the fun sign. Haha, Pixie made me yawn, too, no Brekkie on the floor though - to dancing (I sadly can´t).
