V O G

A   L   O   H   A  !
That sulphurous atmosphere is called
  V O G: Volcanic Smog.

*Scratchy Throat*
*Dull headache*
*Cough Cough*
*Breathing issues*

Fortunately, Honolulu
usually enjoys a
North Pacific High
parked north of us,
driving Trade Winds,
the islands'
 natural air conditioning.

But since last Saturday,
Southerly winds have
crashed our weather party,
bringing haze from
Kīlauea volcano
 on the Big Island,
4,190 feet (1,277 m) high ]
Erupting since
 January 3, 1983
!

Kīlauea means "spewing"
or "much spreading"
 in the Hawaiian language,
referring to its
 prodigious production
  of lava,
or in this case
HAZE.

"Kona Weather"

Blue skies and
fresh air
 have returned!

Now THAT is delight.

" Birds sing after a storm;
 why shouldn't people feel
as free to delight - ? "

Chinatown Double Ten Parade

Nihau!
Welcome to Honolulu Chinatown:
Oldest in the West
Purple Bamboo Melody by Traditional Chinese Music on Grooveshark

Ko`olau Mountains
 behind Honolulu Town
remind me of an
Asian brush drawing.

 Nice day for a parade

Ten Ten, or Double Ten Day
is the National Holiday
of the Republic of China
( Taiwan )

 When are children ever still?

 Sun Yat-sen
was born on 12 November 1866
 to a Cantonese Hakka family.
  Evidence suggests
that he was  born at Ewa
 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Some claim that he came to
 Honolulu
at age 13.

When they are lost in thought. . . .

 Like any other person

 Everything OK in there?

 Here comes the parade!

 We do know
 that Dr. Sun lived here
 among us,
attending Iolani School,
and Punahou
as our President
Obama did.

 Some say
that the cosmopolitan court and
democratic politics
of Hawaii's King Kalakaua
inspired young Sun's
 earliest political
aspirations.

 In 1883 the King
awarded 2nd prize
in English grammar
to the young student
Sun!

 Hawaii
has had a thriving
Chinese community
from Kalakaua's times.

 Hawaii
would not BE the
Hawaii we know and love
without the Chinese
people and influences.

 Memories Under Construction

 What revolution
might THESE Honolulu
children lead,
to improve our world
when they grow up?

 So pretty-
Is it REAL?
MUST TOUCH!

 to be of more value
than the most talented
 hypocrite.  "

My Radio Face

A  L  O  H  A
  Mr & Mz World
& All the Ships at Sea!

We're Broadcasting LIVE from the studio today
The Old New Brunswick, New Jersey Marconi Company Wireless Station,. courtesy

In 1919 the facility joined the newly organized
 Radio Corporation of America (RCA)
as station WII under the World Wide Wireless logo.
Broadcast pioneer, RCAs David Sarnoff
is seen here in 1921, accompanied by
 some legendary scientists.
From left to right are: three unidentified men,
David Sarnoff, Thomas J. Hayden,
 Ernst Julius Berg, S. Benedict,
Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla. . . .

When I was 15,
 the boy next door
was obsessed. . . .

with RADIO.

He had a weak 'pirate' station
from which we broadcast
to NO listeners around the block.

 When he got an intern-ship
at the local Public Radio Station
I started hanging out there.
As I recall, I drove to
Woodstock
with one of the engineers.
I was 16.

Eventually I learned a bit,
producing a small segment
in a community based show
for which I interviewed
and edited the interviews.
I remember cutting
recording tape
with a razor blade,
then splicing it together.

During my one year of college
I had a show late at night.

Sunday, I joined Carroll Cox

on his broadcast.

Ah! I didn't know,
I held

I Have the Power

A  L  O  H  A !
 “ Discipline
 is remembering
 what you
want. "

David Campbell

" The best day of your life
is the one on which you decide
 your life is your own.
No apologies or excuses.
No one to lean on, rely on, or blame.
 The gift is yours -
it is an amazing journey -
 and you alone
 are responsible
 for the quality of it.
This is the day
your life really
 begins.  "

Bob Moawad

weighs ounces,
regret
weighs tons.  "

Recovering Emotional Marionette

Awesome Power
is mine.

You can have it
too-
 though not without
decision
and effort.

No matter what happens
it is within my
Awesome Power
to Behave as
I Choose.

A Rude person
cannot MAKE me
rude.

An angry
or a sad person,
even one I love,
cannot MAKE
me feel those things;

To do so would be
a mistake-
not love.

I can respond
with love,
and private
complete forgiveness
 no matter what-

Even in regret.

 I am also free to
leave.

But another person
is not responsible
for my mood.

I am.

Only I have that power;
 I choose to accept it.

What awesome powers
have YOU developed?
