Over The Fence

A  L  O  H  A   from   Honolulu!
The last touristy, crappy,
cheap bazaar,
that WAS the
International Marketplace
is no more.
Becoming transformed
behind the magician's fence
into another upscale expensive
SPEND-A-RAMA!

But the venerable banyan
that has seen so much:
drunken sailors,
lovebirds of all ages,
been crowned with
nesting rats for decades,
is being revived
as a pampered
Luxe-Lady.

Nesting for
an entirely other
breed of rodent
bearing the
Golden Token
- to enjoy their
Golden Moment -
Providing that
square foot
dollar quotient.

And still the sun
pours down on all
like lotion.

Or is that
just my notion?

Thanks for
Your Patience!

Conservation at its best! I once saw a coconut tree jutting out of a building near the Hilton Waikiki. Great lines Cloudia!

I'm glad they are keeping the banyan tree!

Such a contrast from ultra cheap to upscale expensive! The banyan tree will have many varied tales to tell.

So sad that the old has to make way for the new...all for the sake of development.

Sounds about right to me! Aloha and always enjoyable to soak up your sunshine, and feel that lotion roll!

Most of the time I would rather keep the old. Lovely narrative :). Photos and quotes are always a pleasure.

At least they didn't uproot the banyan. Too bad the old-style bazaar has gone the way of the dodo-rat...

Development. Given the tactics of developers here, I remain dubious of anything they say.

Hello Cloudia, I remember the international marketplace from my visit years ago.. It seems you will not like the new place..Great fence find. Happy Thursday, enjoy your day!

I'm not sure I get about half these references but I enjoyed the banter!

Nooo...what market did they take down?

My mom said even the Thurs/Saturday open market is getting thinner. I hope they don't stop that too.

Love that tree!

Sometimes progress isn't that great. But it's nice that the tree will still be there.

Great job with your wonderful poem, Cloudia. I rather liked that cheap, crappy, touristy bazaar though. I think I prefer it to the upscale shopping thing it's going to be.
