Elvis Presley’s ties to Hawaii run deep: he brought world wide attention to the islands with his films and music. His 1973 “Aloha from Hawaii” concert broadcast from Honolulu reached over a billion viewers, setting entertainment history.
In 1961 Elvis almost single-handedly reinvigorated a campaign to build the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. His electrifying benefit concert raised over $60,000 and ignited worldwide support, turning a dream into Hawaiʻi’s most visited historic site.

Firesilk light climbing
through bright blue of haze,
quicksilver arc expanding
across the morning blaze.
Woven color, a humid,
brief surprise,
A gasp of wonder
exploded in
our morning eyes.
The vapor fades,
chroma gone too soon,
A brilliant memory
lasts to afternoon!

Have a nice day.
Pixie is wide awake.
Blue Hawaii is the first film I can remember seeing, in my parents car at a drive in movie theatre.
...I love the Paulo Coelho quote.
How interesting to learn of the Elvis connection.
I never knew about Elvis' support of Hawaii, just thought he liked to be there! Of course! Pixie is certainly the cutest cat!
Thank you for spending time every day to share pictures, poems, and prose (and Pixie, too) with us.
And today we got a history lesson, as well!
Love Pixie's words today, Cloudia. ;-)
Agree with RedPat what a quote.
I never knew about Elvis' contribution to Hawaii, Cloudia. Thanks, too, for your poem and Pixie's wisdom. Blessings!
Thanks for a wonderful post. Pixie looks like she's enjoying the fire silk light of your poem. I learned something new about Elvis, too. Does Waikiki have Elvis impersonators like Vegas?
