Favorite October

A  L  O  H  A !

" Autumn brings a longing
to get away from the
unreal things of life, out
into the forest at
night with a campfire
and the rustling leaves. "
                           Margaret Sangster

" October comes.
We’ll smell smoke then,
and feel an unexpected
sharpness, a thrill of
nervousness, swift
elation, a sense of
sadness and
departure. "
                  Thomas Wolfe

[ You Can't Go Home Again is a novel by Thomas Wolfe
published posthumously in 1940, extracted from
the contents of his vast unpublished manuscript
The October Fair. Link ]

" When you look
forward into time,
it seems like forever.

- When you look back,
it appears time has
passed in a flash. "
                     Zen Proverb

October is a time
to conjure.

Or is it just we
who grew where it
means Autumn's
wistful winds,
endings, and
thrill beginnings?

There are Hawaii seasons.
Even I, having lived here
just 29 years know that!

But in my magic
a rainy Oahu day
echoes Northern
climes of childhood,
soothing my soul
with grey mashed-potato
skies-

Thank YOU
for splashing
my puddle!

Autumn Hints Waikiki Edition

A L O H A !
Autumn in New York by Billie Holiday on Grooveshark
All Nature Heeds Changing Seasonality

" Delicious autumn!

My very soul is

 wedded to it,

and if I were a bird

I would fly about the earth

seeking the successive

 autumns. "

                          George Eliot

Summer's Overload of Rioting Vitality has Moved On

" Life passes quickly by.
It seems an art
to flow with it,
to accept what it is,
rather than to fight the tide.
There is no time
for the madness. "
                        Sandy Carlson

" In the long run,
we shape our lives,
and we shape
ourselves. "
                       Eleanor Roosevelt

Dare with me
to take a bow
for your
choices!

We are too focused
on measuring
how far we have
to go.

 Let's share a moment
to enjoy
the harvests
we've earned.

Hooray for US!

Autumnus Autompne

Archaic words for a season young each year-
A   L   O   H   A  !

Seasons Of Love (Album Version) by Rent Soundtrack on Grooveshark

" Nature gives to every
 time and season
some beauties
 of its own. . .
it is but a succession of
 changes
so gentle and easy
 that we can scarcely
 mark their progress.  "

Charles Dickens

“A kind heart
 is a fountain of gladness,
making everything
in its vicinity
 freshen into
smiles.”

 Washington Irving

" Live
 in rooms
 full of
 light. "

Cornelius Celsus

" To be interested
 in the changing seasons
 is a happier state
of mind
 than to be
 hopelessly
 in love with
 spring.  "

George Santayana

 Spring = Youth?

 Yes, I feel Autumn;
Smell it too.
Here on Oahu
it is
Bright,
with some
wind & rain
that cleanses,
passes.

Seasons of the year,
seasons of life
always sing
of seasons passed-

- Of other streets
we have walked
in other seasons,
other climes,
other times. . .

" It is always in season
 for old ones
to learn.  "

Aeschylus

In the Air

A L O H A !

Silver Bells by Bing Crosby on Grooveshark
There is something in the Honolulu air

" Let me recommend
the best medicine in the world:
a long journey, at a mild season,
through a pleasant country,
in easy stages.  "

James Madison

Little signs are popping up

" Love is a fruit in season at all times,
and within reach of every hand. "

Let's have some iced wassail

" The proper behavior
all through the holiday season
is to be drunk. "

P. J. O'Rourke

Ah, there he is.

" I like to compare the holiday season
with the way a child listens to a favorite story.

The pleasure is in the familiar way the story begins,
the anticipation of familiar turns it takes,
the familiar moments of suspense,
and the familiar climax and ending.  "

Fred Rogers

Friday Sky Day

ALOHA!

Come Inside, Friend-

"Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful,
we must carry it with us or we find it not."

 Emerson

 “Looking back
you realize that a very special person
 passed briefly through your life-
 and it was you.
It is not too late to find that person again.”

it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty."

      Jesus, Buddha,
Hanuman,

didn't leave us
thick policy & procedure manuals.

They shared a few basic principles,
deceptive in their
simplicity. . .

We had heavy rain
lightning
and rumbling thunder
last night while we slept.

The first winter storm
 rolled in from sea
and down the island chain
cutting off our brisk
Northeast Trades.

Volcanic smog,
VOG,
creeps towards us
from the Big Island
to the south east.
But it will not wreath us for long.

For many years
as I have grown older
magical Christmas Season
has receded to the weeks
around New Year.

But we must need a little of that
spirit right now,
or perhaps I'm living closer
to the love & fellowship
of the season
all year long?

Whatever the cause,
a Hanukkah glow,
 Diwali lights,
and Thanksgiving gratitude
are reflected everywhere
around me.

So share the spirit with me
if you wish.

Here is your first present:
